Local Groups & Organizations

The Lehigh Valley and surounding areas play host to a number of organizations and groups that cater to Linux. Below are a collection of those groups which we encourage you to explore for further information. If you have any information about groups or organizations that are not represented in this list, please contact us with your group or organizations information.

LVLUG Logo

The Lehigh Valley Linux Users Group is an group of professional and hobbyists who get together on a regular basis (usually monthly) to share their knowledge and love of Linux and other OpenSource software. The mission of the LVLUG is to "help promote the use and understanding of Linux." Meetings and event are open to the public and there are no membership dues. The LVLUG operates a mailing list to facilitate communication between members and provide a resource to the community via publically available archives. SIG Logo

A special interest group from Lehigh Valley Computer Users Group and sister group to the LVLUG, the Linux SIG is a group run by LVLUG and LVCG member Jeff Zartler. The Linux SIG caters to "newbies" by providing hands on instruction via "Linux Labs" using Linux and assistance with Linux installs. Meetings are typically held the fourth Monday of the month, but double check the Linux SIG website for more up-to-date information on dates, times, and locations. Be sure to also check when the next Linux Lab will be held! The Linux SIG, being and off shoot of the LVCG may require membership to the LVCG. ABE Perl Mongers Logo

Are you a Perl wizard? Or are you just beginning to get your feet wet? If so, Ricardo Signes has put together an Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton chapter of Perl Mongers appropriately titled ABE Perl Mongers. As of February, 2004 the group was just getting started. Ricardo hosts a mailing list and a wiki on his site. Meetings are open to Perl enthusiasts of all levels. Bring yourself and a desire to contribute. BCLUG Logo

The Bucks County Linux Users Group meets up to four times a month in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, USA. A close group of professionals from all walks of life come together to discuss Linux and OpenSource software. In addition to two BCLUG meetings a month, usualy the second and fourth Tuesday, the BCLUG also hosts a "newbie" night twice a month; typically on the first and third Thursday of the month. As always double check the website for meeting dates and times just to be sure.

The BCLUG hosts their own mailing list with public archives. They also have a forum on their website. No dues are charged and meetings are open to anyone. Members enjoy the luxury of checking books out of the BCLUG library. Current titles are listed on the website.

LVCG Logo

Established in 1980, the Lehigh Valley Computer Users Group has dedicated itself helping people get the most of our their computers. The LVCG hosts a general meeting on a monthly basis and then coordinates a number of splinter special interest groups ranging from Linux to networking, graphic design and Macintosh specific. There is an annual due for individual membership, and price discount for family membership. Members enjoy perks offerred by software companies like demos, on-line chats, and invitations to events.
