Re: Is the US media making Americans stupid?
One aspect of the media - television, in general is. I am appalled by the crap on television. IMO, everything on during prime-time TV is rancid garbage except Jeopardy! and the Simpsons and the latter I don't watch anymore. As for the news, when I do watch it, especially on the rare occasion I catch...

Re: Happy Winter Solstice
I know Franklin was a Deist and I think Jefferson was too. They still believed in a Creator. Paine may have been atheist. "...that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom..." - Abraham Lincoln, 11/19/1863, Gett...

Re: Why do Christians disobey Jesus?
Some people have nothing better to do than bash Christianity I guess. Christianity, if nothing else, is one religion that is tolerant of others, including atheists. And, there are good atheists who present legitimate and mature views and opinions, and then there are those atheists who need to grow u...

Re: Happy New Year and first meeting of the year
Pat, I'm up for giving it a go to jumpstart the LUG. I won't be able to make the meeting on the 10th (I'll be driving home from Pittsburgh) but maybe next month.

Re: What's on your web server?
FreeBSD 7.0-Release, Apache 1.3.x, Webmin. I pulled the plug on that machine because I was having electrical problems (circuit breaker kept tripping) so I had to disconnect everything until the electrician fixed the problem. I haven't had time to get everything up again yet so I that's why I am not ...

Re: Bush on TV - Throwing away another $14 Bil taxpayer's money
Cut all entitlement programs now and make everyone pay back two years' of free stuff by working at Ford, Chrysler, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, public works projects, and so on, for free for the next 24 months. Start with SSI and work down from there. People over 62 are exempt as are wounded veterans,...

Re: Happy Winter Solstice
Atheists believe in all sorts of things: freedom, human rights, democracy, justice, equality, etc ...and Christianity is the basis for those here in America. You would not be able to enjoy these in America if it weren't for the Judeo-Christian beliefs that many of our leaders have held over the pas...

Re: Happy Winter Solstice
Christians look at this and understand that everyone is different and if you don't believe in God, Christians will still help you in a time of need, pray for you even if you don't believe, and love you as brother or sister. Since atheists don't believe in anything, they have to engage in acts of int...

Re: Linux - a bigger threat to freedom than Bin Laden
HAHA, funny. But seriously though, thanks to our current President, OBL has been living in a friggin cave dodging bat dung and scared sh*tless to come out. Compare that to pre 9/11 when OBL pranced around the world at will blowing up things, and no one did anything about it. And before you blame Dub...

Re: Favorite Linux (and non-Linux) magazines?
I had subscribed to Linux Magazine and then over the summer, I suddenly got a copy of Linux Pro Magazine with a note that my remaining subscription of Linux Mag will be fulfilled with Linux Pro because Linux Magazine ceased printing. Ok, fine, and I like Linux Pro but this week I got the renewal not...

Re: Facebook and the CIA
On a similar note - you'd be a fool not to believe that Facebook, Myspace, Xanga, et al, aren't being spidered and indexed regularly. Chances are it's not just the CIA and US government either. Betcha Beijing is doing it too - and not just their citizens. It's highly likely the Chinese government is...
