Re: Sincere Question...What Does Linux Offer A Computer User?
While LINUX may not easily replace Windows Desktop functionality due to the hardware of the Desktop of the type of media and data formats used (DVD's, ITUNES, MS WORD docx formats, etc), Linux does open up a whole new environment in which to use/learn program languages and server software that would...

Re: Window lovers out the closet NOW !
Use XP Pro & Vista for hosting VMWare sessions of Lunix/BSD/Solaris. Use "the Windows" for the ATI 3870 video card for full driver/feature support. Also use "the Windows" and to make sure I have all sorts of browsers, word processors, spreadsheets, etc for data retrieval/formatting ... Program using...

Re: Distro hopping?
For a while I did quit a bit of distro hopping via multiboots and vmware on top of the various multiboots. Started the Distro hopping after my "beloved SuSE" was bought by Novell. Re: killawatt - get one!
I picked up a P4400 Kill A Watt trying to determine power levels used when overclocking and used the results to get optimal performance per watt. Very useful for Folding@Home machines that are kept on 24x7.

Re: Should we call out the Apple lovers amongst our ranks?
I have another question. Should we also call out the Windows lovers in our ranks? Is "I only use it for games" an excuse to keep the familiar around? How many Linux users still have that Windows partition on their machines? --murph (Linux, Mac, occasionally Windows, and even occasionally Amiga user...

Re: Software RAID or folder synchronization?
Several years ago I tried software RAID-1 on SuSE 8.x I tested the mirror by disconnecting a drive ... at boot time the "MD" software kept complaining that "disk quorum" wasn't met ... and as a result the "md" software would not activate the raid group ... ... I couldn't figure how to "ignore quorum...

I agree with comments made by Alan during episode 237 ... and to sort of paraphrase ... using whatever technology that seems to get the job done in a manner that is agreeable to the user (Alan) ... Also, gadget lovers often like "cool" looking hardware ... just check the hardware sites with the vari...
