Re: Shuttleworth: "Apple is driving the innovation"
Fair enough - I'm not going to chase a silly argument down a rabbit hole, though.

Re: Weird forum error causing my post not to display
I thought I had posted to that thread as well, in reply to the same post, but whatevered it assuming I had forgotten to hit submit.

Re: Shuttleworth: "Apple is driving the innovation"
Well, at the very least The Dock was apple's idea, and we've been whoring it ever since. I'll admit that I don't care for the dock - I think it's a shitty way to manage windows, and I much prefer quicksilver or katapult style launchers, but linux folks have produced literrally dozens of shitty (and,...

Re: LugRadio calls it quits
I recall that in the past a bunch of their listeners were complete assholes about the "quality" of TLLTS.

Re: How Do I Network Two Linux Boxes?
OK, this is getting way off subject here, but seeing as I *am* a network admin... If you posted in the paper "Need Network Admin" with only that and an email addy to send resumes, you'd be inundated with resumes from folks who consider themselves network admins, but in reality can barely get a links...

Re: How Do I Network Two Linux Boxes?
Are you serious? You think asking someone, especially a newbie, to vi files in /etc is reasonable and "straight forward?" Especially someone who was upset when asked to define "network" and was upset that almost everywhere they looked people were suggesting client/server rather than peer-to-peer? Ma...

Re: KDE: It's time for a fork
Actually, come to think of it, maybe that's exactly what journalism is. I dunno. I do know that I find myself having less and less time/desire to read it and its ilk, though.

Re: KDE: It's time for a fork
That does bring up a point - who exactly is he? I mean, apart from the fact that he's released a bunch of op-ed pieces I've seen links to, and was on TLLTS once, I know nothing about him. Has he contributed to FOSS in some large and meaningful way, or is he just some random dude with an opinion, lik...

Re: Taking Linux advocacy to the "mainstream" tech press
Well, considering it was their second post, more than likely all of us knew it anyhow. I do admit I never understand posts like these. It's like: Hi my name is snarkout, and I am a devout vegetarian. The fact that there are no vegetarian cisco books out there really bothers me, especially in light o...

You might consider including the file change and command for those of us in the dark.Jza wrote:nfs is pretty straightforward just chane 1 line on the server and perform one comand on the client and u are all set. You dont need to deal with users issues etc.

Re: How Do I Network Two Linux Boxes?
I don't use the brown OS except on my lappy, and even there it's the K version, and I wasn't suggesting that there isn't a GUI, I was asking if there is a good one. Even so, I still don't see a compelling reason to prefer NFS over CIFS on a simple home network. SWAT is the web frontend for CUPS I wa...

Re: How Do I Network Two Linux Boxes?
Hmm, the previous suggestions are great, but why didn't anyone mention NFS? I think NFS is very easy if you are only doing a few computers at home. For printing, why didn't anyone mention cups? Again, very easy. Could you expand on "very easy?" I work with NFS daily, but I'm not going to ask someon...

Re: Awesome point about iTunes
In general, I have no problem with itunes - it is what it is, and if you have a mac and an ipod (or windows and an ipod, I guess), it's really a pretty damn sweet service. My wife is extremely happy with her Macintosh lifestyle, for instance. DRM is DRM - Apple's is less obnoxious than some, but it'...
