Which desktop/distro do you use?
I personally use Arch with Xfce 4.8, dual booted with Linux Mint.
@Dann you are right, Arch wasn't too bad to set up, and it's the most stable distro I've run.

Re: What do you use to rip and/or encode DVD's?
@Patrick , is there anything you would do better?
This way seems pretty reliable, but any alternatives/improvements would be welcome.

What do you use to rip and/or encode DVD's?
I have been working on refining my method of ripping and encoding my DVD collection. vobcopy -I to find the main video track. vobcopy -l -n x seems get the raw vob off the DVD. x being the video track number (it's not always track 1) The reason I bother with this instead of just using Handbrake, is ...

Re: New Sansa fuze
Well, I updated the firmware and that worked. It also plays great in my rockbox install on the player.dann wrote:Let us know if other ogg shows play fine and our's does not. We had similar issues way back in the day with devices only supporting specific bit rates for ogg files.

New Sansa fuze
I finally got a Sansa Fuze, which is a great player so far. The only issue I have is that the latest TLLTS ogg feed is garbled on the player, but not the computer. The mp3 feed sounds great, but one reason I wanted this player was to support the ogg format. Does anyone else have this issue? On a goo...

Re: Arch linux: like and dislikes
I found that simplicity was a strength. I had to find out how to add a window manager (Xfce) and do a little configuration, but with the help of vim, it worked out. I couldn't have said everything better myself. With all the documentation available, and a little terminal work, everything works fast....

Arch linux: like and dislikes
On the recovery show a few shows back, Dan talked about helping his daughter through an Arch install. What are the best things about Arch, and also the drawbacks? I've only been using Arch for 2 weeks, and it seems stable. It took a little more to configure, but after a week, my root file system was...

Re: I need a fast way to encode h.264
I have used ffmpeg and winff. Winff gives me trouble with libfaac. Do you know of another codec that is good with h.264?

I need a fast way to encode h.264
I keep hearing on the tech show about h.264.
I want to know how to more quickly encode to that format.
video card: Nvidia GeForce 8600GT
Proc.: AMD64 2.1 Ghz dual core
If possible, I would need to use both cores to increase the conversion speed.
Currently, a ripped movie takes 4 hrs on HandBrake.

Re: Need help with Nvidia 8600gt
Videos play fine in VLC.Looks like your video card setup is fine. Can you play your videos without issue under mplayer or vlc? If so then it sounds like it's a problem with Boxee and Elisa. I know Elisa uses the gstreamer libraries. Not sure about Boxee.
