The windows machines will act as servers in your case. Correcto, and if your usernames and passwords are saved on the Windows server you'll need to join the domain AND authenticate from the Windows servers. Look into authentification using a Windows PDC in the Samba docs to find out the steps for d...

Have you joined the domain/workgroup with that machine yet? If you're on Samba 3.0.4 you'll want to look into net join (man net) if it's Samba 2.2 you'll want to use smbpasswd -j

As far as I know you do need at least one server before you can have any clients. The server just regulates what clients behave in what way. So if you have ClientA, ClientB, and ClientC, the server has the configuration files on it that say /home/ClientA is public, /home/ClientB is private, but /mnt...

SMB client would be the client to a Samba server. Samba is a server application used to unify *nix systems and Windows systems over a network. So you could use a Samba server to act as a file or printer server for a network composed of Windows PC's or connect to a Windows network with a Linux PC by ...

I could be wrong though. I think what it *may* be for is you use the rpm --rpmbuild <package> command to build the RPM from source so the RPM is built from scratch for your system. Which is the epitome of zealotism :D Just use Gentoo.

Someone might be able to answer me this though, what is the point with srpms?
I believe it's for RPM zealots who want to build stuff from source using a single command. I used RPM distros for over a year and never had to use a single one.

I use clam on a server I setup at work, works pretty painlessly and I guess does a good job. Not like viruses come through for Linux all too often.

Hmm...took me a while but it looks like I use imm to find the Zip drive. Works though. Whats the best way to modprobe this module (and parport) on bootup? The drive will need to be mounted all the time.

I followed the instructions for the Zip drive, and I'm not getting any mounting of the module at boot...what's the module called? Maybe if I manually insmod it I can get it working :o/

I need to use absolute path's for commands right? All the documentation I've been reading has made it look like this is the case.

On another note, how can I configure a parallel external Zip drive? I dunno how to tell which /dev/ file it's used by.

SuSE is the distro I've always found to be best for non-computer people, as well as for standard business use. Although, it's not free :? On the other hand, you only really need to buy one copy, and based on what kind of system administration you'll be doing, you may not even need to buy the Profess...

You must have a fast machine! Nothing like a 3 day install on a 800mhz machine. My brand new HP hv5160 w/ 2.8ghz P4m, 512mb RAM, and 60gb HD :D The install is actually taking a while nonetheless :? Stage 2 install. I've tried them all except maybe Suse. Slackware all the way baby! I'm a big SuSE us...

What's yer distro?

Yep ~ Possibly a flame war :D but there's a decent mix of gurus and n00bs in this forum/LUG/mailing list, so whats the pick of the gurus and what do the n00bs like?

I'm a newly discovered Gentoo addict :D

I'd be interested in how well it works, I never tried it. Everybody I talked to told me Hauppage is the best. But hey, if it's free, why not eh?
