E-Mail Spam via this forum
I'm paranoid, I happen to have a paid yahoo account for the disposable addresses, so whenever anyone asks me for my e-mail address when I sign up for something I create a disposable e-mail address for them. It's not that I don't trust whoever I give my e-mail to, it's that things happen. On this for...

Online Teamroom/Project Management
Anyone know of any good (preferably free ;-) Teamroom or Project Management software that can be set up to be accessable online? Some friends and I are working on a program together and it would be nice to have a central location to track and discuss everything, e-mail and IM is starting to get conf...

Re: adding a usb mouse to my laptop
I've had a sort of opposite experience. In my case both linux and windows are able to use Intellimouse when I plug it in the USB port, both on bootup or when hotplugged. With windows, everything worked perfectly with no config necessary, but under Ubuntu none of the special buttons nor the mouse whe...

Is NPR the only feed? Can you post the feed url so I can test it out and see if it happens for me? I subscribed to several npr feeds way back when, and their urls don't make it easy to tell which files are coming from which url, so I'll have to get back to you on that. I tried adding tllts's feed t...

Strange behavior when using bashpodder
So after discovering bashpodder by accident, I happily moved my podcast functionality over to my linux server. For a week it worked perfectly, but for the last couple weeks now everything it downloads is corrupted. I'll listen to an mp3 from npr for instance, and the audio will skip around like some...

Well, I investigated the driver avenue some more and found out that whether it affects my streaming video sync issue or not, my driver settings aren't optimal. this site says Type “glxinfo | grep direct”. You should see“direct rendering: Yes.” My co...

As far as I can tell it's only a streaming video problem. I've downloaded videos from google video and they play fine off my hard drive. It's strange though because the google video will appear to be buffering far ahead that there shouldn't be a performance issue. <a href="http://video.google.com/vi...

streaming video/audio sync problem; Question about drivers.
I'm still new to Linux on the desktop, I have ubuntu running on my Thinkpad T23, and one problem I've noticed recently is that when I'm watching streaming video, on google video's for instance, the audio will lose sync with the video, becoming noticable after something like 30 seconds to a minute. I...

Thanks for the info. I'm going about things this way becuase I don't want to use my ISP's mail server, I want to host my mail in my LAN on my server so that over time I can hoard all my e-mail in one place even if I switch ISP's or whatever, and still be able to access it from wherever. In a perfect...

Thanks, now I know specifically what to read up on. Just to make sure I understand correctly, fetchmail retrieves mail and inserts it into sendmails repository/database/whatever, and sendmail interacts with whatever client I use to access my e-mail? What I'm confused about is when you say sendmail d...

E-mail client/server question from a recent convert
So far I've converted two computers to linux, one running Ubuntu Server, the other is an Ubuntu desktop. I currently use MS Outlook 2000 as my mail client, and would like to switch to a linux app instead. One thing I was wondering though, was if I could set up the server to download mail from a pop ...

Linux Smartphones
I'm slowly converting my computers to linux, my wife generally doesn't care as long as she's able to do all the same stuff she can do in windows. One oppertunity I'm seeing to assume linux is in our cellphones. Our contract with Cingular is expiring soon, and we've considered getting Smartphones so ...
