Re: Fedora 11 install is a fail [solved]

I recommend you install the yum-fastestmirror and the yum-presto plugins. These will enable yum to search for the fastest mirror and the deltarpm (presto) support for 70-90% smaller downloads for updates.

Re: Fedora 11 install is a fail

That's a bummer. I've done 3 flawless installs on three different machines including my eeepc 1000he and a Thinkpad x61s (so both 32 bit and 64 bit versions) and have not encountered that. I have to say that I find Fedora 11 to be quite impressive.

Re: First time I've ever seen Leo Laporte lose his cool

I actually thought it was pretty funny and in a way I am glad Leo called out Mike Arrington. Mike is kind of a blowhard.

Re: Missed Opportunity Episode 297

Fair enough, although I said I had not seen the presentation and so it seemed to me (perhaps incorrectly) we branched the discussion out to talk about "where Linux is going" in a general sense notwithstanding what Bryan said or didn't say. At least that's what was going through my mind. His presenta...

Patrick Volkerding changing up the logo again

He was just in ##slackware on freenode and hinted that the "flippy" logo that everyone hated was a bad joke. He's put the old logo up again but with a very slight twist -- it says "classic" in the bottom line: http://slackware.com/ I think this one is not staying long either. I think he's going back...

Pls recommend GPS

Hey everyone... I am going to get my wife an automotive GPS for her birthday in October and need some recommendations. I want the unit to work under Linux, of course, since I might pull the data off it myself. I would prefer an automotive GPS that attaches to the dash or windshield. I also would lik...

Re: My new Acer Aspire One mini review

All the reports I have read seem to indicate the 6 cell, 160GB HD version is Windows XP only.

Re: My new Acer Aspire One mini review

I would agree with Ken. I can't tell if it's one speaker or two, but they are acceptable, if a little tinny, to me given the size of the machine and it's intended use. They are not great speakers or anything like that, but acceptable.

Re: My new Acer Aspire One mini review

Chess, Does Linpus Linux have a retard mode on by default like the EEEPC? Yes, it has a simplified interface that is enabled by default but it just sits on top of a regular Xfce desktop with the regular Xfce right-click menu turned off. All you need to do to turn on the Xfce right-click menu is do ...

Re: My new Acer Aspire One mini review

Figures they would drop the price just after I buy one. :/ FWIW, the main user site for the Aspire One is http://www.aspireoneuser.com. There are some great forums, tutorials, howto's, etc. OSNews.com has also run some recent reviews and stories about the Aspire One. I've been using mine a lot while...

My new Acer Aspire One mini review

I thought I'd give a mini review of my new Acer Aspire One. After hearing Dann go on and on about his eeepc :-) I have been looking at getting one myself. However, I also read about the new Acer Aspire One, which is another of these UMPC's that are all over the place. The Acer sells for about $375 t...
