No doubt. The coolest yet. Imaginary conversation between me and friend in Pat's hometown in Minn. follows Me: So, what;s up? Him: Not much. Had our holiday parade today. Me: Yeah, we had ours last week. Firetrucks, farm animals and what-not. Him: Yeah, Patrick Volkerding drove his rag-top Firebird ...

Thanks Snarkout. As always you are a "font" of knowledge. Looked into the webcore thing, probably common knowledge here but did find a killer quick tutorial on Linux and Fonts at - where else - The Linux Tutorial Project (actually just googled "webcore fonts" and found this http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO...

Still Newbie After All These Years

Or..I'm just a big "micro"-softie -ho! ho!, stop me before I kill again. For the slight chance that I'm the only goober here that doesn't know it, if your fonts look like crap in Linux (Firefox, etc) - you may need to download the MS True Type Fonts for your distro. I'd never really thought about it...

just wondered how much information and work is lost because these so called "IT professionals" just assume that a faulty MS-Windows hard drive is un-recoverable and, therefore, reformat a hard drive without recovering the important information just because MS-Windows lacks the capability. You can a...

Quote: How you will concern to if your wife very much will grow stout? If you mean *drink* stout, I'd be ecstatic. There is nothing finer than a good woman drinking good beer. Here! here! Maybe even mix in a nice pilsner for a good Black and Tan, but, I don't know Snarkout, I think he said grow sto...

Sadly, most Windows users think that's just the way computers are. Sad being the operative term there. I think you've made a good point before (and I'm convinced myself) that a savvy enough user can take FLOSS and Windows and make it work (web, Email, Office, multimedia, etc.) and be fine (if that'...

Great point Snarkout, that's an easy one to overlook. There's also of course the persistent internet rumor that DSL is just a clever reverse acronym for LSD.

Which brings up the fact that I've always had a problem with the story that Tux came to Linus in a dream after a "bad fish dinner".

True Gomer_x, also Ubuntu would not be the first distro whose name carries spiritual conotations - Good Old Slackware (according to reliable sources), is named of course after The Church of the Subgenius' central tenet of "Slack" - hence the pipe of "frop" that Tux smokes - in the manner of the pipe...

Ubuntu Philosophy 101

I thought this was pretty interesting - (I had of course read the usual quick blurbs about the meaning of "Ubuntu" - didn't realize it was this relevant in contemporary African life) - http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/7-22-2006-103206.asp 1) After thinking of "Ubuntu" as a distro for so long, it's k...

Just a follow-up, I'm back on at work (on my break). I doubt you guys changed anything, so maybe there's a closet Linux or TLLTS fan in the company hierarchy.

Anyhow..........stop screwing around and get back to work! :)

Chuck, forgive me if I came across wrong , I understand that there are reasons why IT departments have to regulate access (that's what I meant by the comment that I can understand the havoc that having 100 unregulated Windows machines could wreak). I actually spent a year at a job acting as the "loc...

I want my TLLTS!

Tried to get on the forum from work this morning and was blocked by their "firewall" software due to content ("hobbies, inerest"). I can only figure they must have plugged "Linux"? into the list last week. Is there something else in the Meta data or something that would otherwise have done it? Just ...

I didn't get real deep into the stats but can say that I didn't have any trouble other than the Flash issue. Fedora was also the only 64 bit distro that actually ran out of the box for me (tried Ubuntu 64, Suse 64 - but could've just been my setup: MSI K8T, etc.).
