I am forced to work with Outlook all day and with around 100 emails a day you can imagine my frustration.... but evolution just doesnt have the usability and the good looks of Outlook.... actually, its mainly about the looks :) And trust me... I would dump outlook if I could... when is Mozilla going...

Gmail with Fetchmail

This should help. You are probably getting a failure because Gmail uses SSL for its POP3 so just make sure you have POP3 enabled from the options in Gmail and follow these instructions...

What I plan to do in the future, when I get a more powerful AMD64 box (I am actually saving up for it, and I plan to do so for a while longer so I really can get something that kicks ass), either I'll get an AMD X2 or a dual CPU Opteron system. Both choices depend on a good SMP capable OS to be use...

Its only andecdotal, but I was running FreeBSD quite happily as a desktop OS and speeeeeeeed was great. I am developing quite a liking for a BSD machine as a stable machine while playing with Linux for a play around machine which is a lot more fun :D

As I remember it I am no good at spelling (without the spellchecker) because I re-wrote the BASIC code in my spelling program when I was 6 on my Commodore 64....

I think it went downhill from there...
