I recently found Tomboy, a wiki style note-taker (like NOTEPAD with hyperlinks). It's 70% of what I want. I want a self-contained wikipedia. I'd like not to depend on apahce and it's related extentions. I want A (single) program, plus a flat database.
Any ideas?

Very good point. I am an adult male.. so I know what games I like in the FOSS/Linux world; but I also have 3 daughters and 1 son. Games for them are also high on my list. The most popular games with them have been closed-source games (namely Freddy fish, and scooby-doo) under windows. Any help here ...

PS: another thing: I was hoping to give them one of my spare memory modules.. but their system is sdram. I have a 128 MB, ddr pc266, and a 256 MB, same speed. These are FREE (as in beer) for anyone in need who is able to show up at my door and ask (location: blaine, mn, usa). I upgraded my pc's ram ...

...Google earth works awsome,.. I finally tried that out using both klik and googles installer, both run great. I _really_should_ show them. (EDIT: I did use it years ago when it was called keyhole (google bought it), it was great then too) The only prob is they have _no_ 3D excel under linux (oddb...

Yes, I have edited the sources.list file to support uni/multiverse. (hey, their machine.. their choice in software) EDIT: not backports.. I'll think about it. Perhaps I'll discuss the pros and cons w/them. Besides, the impressive list of software in those repos should keep them happy for quite some ...

A new (K)Ubuntu user.
I recently (1.5 weeks ago) had a chance to repair a home PC (circa late 2001, 1.6Ghz amd, 256MB pc 133 SDRAM, 80GB HDD) for a family friend. They had next to no experience w/windows (machine was in mothballs for most of the time). There was massive corruption to the windows XP install (whistler acco...

And if the 'big press' is involved and won't be considerate of you, are you suggesting that this place doesn't attract attention? Yes. At least to our local news. I have never seen the headline "according to TLLS..." (come to think of it, not on the nationals either) If the big press is repressing ...

PS: I have seen similar posts (IE:) http://thelinuxlink.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=161 This post was in the Lehigh Valley LUG forum, about a Lehigh Valley LUG member (apparently). How is this off topic? HRM.. good question. Looks like an ebkac. I think you understand my point, if you don't.. you're ...

Also look at doing a MEMtest. Prolly the controller ( or other bottleneck between the devices) As another thought. 5GB is just bigger than 4GB. I'm only stating this to be complete. Is there a chance that the software/firmware might not be able to handle anything bigger than a 32 bit unsigned INT?. ...

Sorry, but you posted at roughly the same time as me, so here it goes: I have a GeForce 6200 on my desktop, and the Nv driver isn't really adequate for any type of OpenGL use. I'd say I maybe get 10% of the performance I get with the binary Nvidia driver. Sounds like software running on the CPU, any...

In the mobile chips market I think it's safe to say the Pentium M, and now the Intel Core Duo outperform the Turion64 in terms of battery life, and performance per watt. Even on the desktop side of things, the upcoming Core 2 Duo will be the fastest chip on the market according to every report I've...

OK.. to update the thread: The AMD/ATI merger looks like fact. Now onto another question: For those of you with nvidia; Does the open NV driver do any 3d exceleration? I'm not expecting parity w/the closed driver, but 50% perfomance would be quite fine. My PC has a intel igp (845gv I think), and a A...

Intel vs AMD: a sort-of poll
I'm torn. I have always liked AMD (underdog... good tech, etc) But Intel has recently became top dog (arguable). I'm interested in OPEN drivers. ATI has some open drivers for it (quality on my system- so-so). NV has little to compete on this front. Closed drivers are almost useless to me. AMD has ha...
