Re: Dumb question!

An lna or lnb is needed to amplify the relatively weak signals received from satellite and then convert their frequency from gig range to MHz range that a tuner can use. but lnb's can be had cheap. Just keep an eye on the craigslistings for your area. People are always trying to dump their stuff. I ...

USB-UIRT.... My GOD... This thing finally works!

It pays to never give up... My first IR device was a USB-UIRT which worked great with windows but failed terribly as I made my move over to linux. So this box has been sitting in a drawer for years and I decided to give it one more try. It works! It took a while to better understand lirc drivers and...

Re: any consensus on which remote works best out of the box ?

I too had this working for a while and was very pleased but for one small thing. My batteries died too quick. :( So, I gave up on it and returned it to my PS3 The Sony PS3 bluetooth remote works so long as you have bluetooth in your frontend computer. I followed the instructions on the MythTV Wiki w...

Pla:

Yeppers, I took spotslayer's recommendation and use mythchanger with a wrapper shell script to control two boxes.

Works fine with only one time I had a mix up by going to the wrong channel.

Near perfect

Re: HDPVR IR Blasting to a Comcast Cisco RNG150 SetTop Box

pla, also keep in mind that if the cable box supports it, Firewire changing is 99.99% reliable. Does this cisco box have a firewire port? If you have to generate your own codes, the HD-HR is the gadget I use to generate all my codes from my hand held remotes using irrecord. It really is quite good f...

Stream Zap eh? I'll have to look into that. Thanks pla!

Pat, I'm hesitant to jump for any "MCE" branded anything these days after getting stuck with these Diamond brand remotes. I will only go on someone else's mythtv referral from now on! So, I'm listening with my one good ear,

Re: any consensus on which remote works best out of the box ?

Nice piece of kit! You say 80% of the keys work perfectly. Would these include the pause / play / fast forward / rewind and num keys? If you run irw do you receive output for each of the keys? If so, it may just be a configuration issue and using a config for mythtv. Have you tried creating your own...

Re: any recomendation for fanless ION power supply ?

I believe they are 19 Volt.
A 19v voltage toshiba Laptop power supply works great. Since the old laptop died, I keept the PS as a spare incase the zotac supplied unit takes a dive.

Jetway ION Board.... Suprisingly QUIET!!!

No review just yet, but I'm configuring a Jetway ION board (the 12v power brick version) for the living room and I think I may move it to the bedroom. Unlike the Zotac A-U which I already have in service, the CPU fan is variable and system controlled. Even at full tilt, it's super quiet. It revs at ...

Re: any consensus on which remote works best out of the box ?

Timely question. I would also like some tips. It appears that a majority of the MCE remotes are actually HID devices emulating keyboards and mouse buttons. There is a way to config these things but it is a huge pain in the rear. It's very difficult to determine what available remotes actually work w...

Re: Make it slingbox

Pat, how did that mvp transcoding work out for you? Do you think it would be reasonable to consider breaking out my old mvps collecting dust and use them to view content recorded in by my HD sources (HDHR & HDPVR). I would use them on a couple of remaining Analog sets. (Kids room and Kitchen). Seems...
