hey guys, i Just got 9.10 installed and working with all 5 of my tuners (WOO HOO!!!).
my question is, by default with the nvidia 185 drivers working, is VDPAU working ? how can I tell ?
the only issues i had in 8.10 were if i recorded 3 tuners and played back a high def recording, i would sometimes get video stutter, but it was never anything i could replicate on demand. is there any way to tell if VDPAU is working or is there any settings in Myth that need to be turned on ?

You need to go into the frontend setup and make sure you have VDPAU enabled in the playback profile:lobosolo wrote:my question is, by default with the nvidia 185 drivers working, is VDPAU working ? how can I tell ?

You may have try out the different de-interlacers to see which one is the smoothest for your systems. I wound up using bob 2x on my main box (8600gt card) and my Ion based frontend (9400M). To check to see if it's working start watching an HD video (h264 or mpeg2). SSH into your myth system and start top. Your CPU usuage should below 10% if VDPAU is configured correctly. If you see your CPU > 50% you probably don't have it enabled and your system's CPU is doing the heavy lifting on playback. On my system with VDPAU I see < 5% CPU load when playing back 1080i h264 recordings!

AWESOME !!! thanks so much, that did it. i was at about 45% just watching a HD show. i followed the directions and copied you with bob and now that video plays back at about 5-8%.... I'm going to try a test and record all 5 tuners tonight and playback some HD content and see how it works out.
thank you so much for this show, your show has brought my little DVR from good to great after listening to all these episodes. i'm really starting to get it dialed in. next up is trying to figure out mythexport and how to send my shows to my mp3 player.
a quick question, does VDPAU only work with the HD playback or is it all video playback ? i have some shows recorded with my pvr-150 and when i play them back, the CPU shoots up to 20%. i would think the HD content would tax the system more then the Mpg2 video.

VDPAU will help work with h264, mpeg2, vc-1 and wmv. It has the most impact with h264 files which are very cpu intensive. It does also help with mpeg2 recordings but h264 is where it really shines. Without VDPAU my 2.0 ghz dual core AMD64 can handle 1080 mpeg2 without issue but it can only play the lowest quality 720p h264 recordings. Now they only need to add support for flash playback and we're golden.lobosolo wrote:a quick question, does VDPAU only work with the HD playback or is it all video playback ? i have some shows recorded with my pvr-150 and when i play them back, the CPU shoots up to 20%. i would think the HD content would tax the system more then the Mpg2 video.
