question about 64bit or 32bit mythbuntu setup

Post by lobosolo » Sun May 23, 2010 1:29 pm

hey guys, i have always run the 32bit version of mythbuntu but I am wondering if there would be any benefit to running the 64bit version. i have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5800+ . i know that 64bit is a wider bus, but does a mythtv setup take advantage of it ? would all of my frontend machines then also need to be 64bit if the backend is a 64bit machine ?

any answers would be most appreciated.

My main box has the same processor as you and I've been running 64 for a while now. The benefits of 64 bit: faster endcoding, access to RAM => 4 gig. My Ion box is 32 bit so you can mix & match 32 & 64 bit systems as long as they're running the same version of MythTV. Hell you can even have each box running with a different distro.

And I can attest that 64 bit works ok on the ion as well.
