storage group options

Post by Pantera116 » Fri Apr 22, 2011 3:57 pm

On my backend/frontend system i have 4 tb of storage. The 2tb recordings drive is now 85% full, usage of the pair of 1tb drives is fairly light.

So my idea was can storage groups be set up on the 1 tb drives to provide extra storage for particular recordings.

Could i setup a group say for films(ota), could i then set any future film recordings to be saved to this group/drive/directory location.

Would it also be possible to move existing recording into this group/drive/directory location.

Does this sound possible or have i got it all wrong?

UPDATE

I have done some experimentation and have now got 3 additional storage groups set up. When selecting programs to record i can now define
which storage group to use. Hi Def content and OTA Films can now be recorded to the lightly used 1 TB drives. This should reduce the rate at
which the 2 TB drive is filled, delaying the point at which a new larger drive is needed.

It is not clear to me if i can get Mythbuntu to move existing recordings from one storage group to another, but this current solution is OK for now.

It is my understanding that you can move the files to any storage place you have listed in the setup as a drive for recordings and it should still work. Try moving one file and see if it works. If it does, great... if not, you can simply move it back.

I don't think this will break anything with the database.

Let us know how it works out!
