Subjective quality output of HD-PVR?

On your myth podcast, I recall that Dann and Pat compared the picture out from the HD-PVR. I wasn't sure what was compared. Did yhey compare the picture on the TV with what appeared when you were watching the HDMI input while the program was being recorded, with the picture that appeared in the Myth frontend when playing back a recording of the same program?
Personally, I can't distinguish a significant difference between the HDMI input and component input (Pb Pg Pr) when my sony tv is fed from my Dish Network Satellite receiver. Either of these two is definitely better than S-Video which chops / degrades it. So if the output of a recorded program is roughly equivalent to that I might get from HDMI/Component in, I think a HD-PVR is in my future. If someone with a HD-PVR could revisit this question, I'd appreciate it.
