(Solved?) HD Homerun tuner stops after about 2 minutes

I'm playing around with a new install on Ubuntu 10.04 and Mythtv .23

The HD Homerun which worked flawlessly on a 9.10 install running Myth .22 now has a strange issue.
A recording on one of the tuners stops after about two minutes. I have not been able to tie it to any action or strange front end behavior.

Which logs should I be looking for that may tell me why this recording stops after a few minutes and the back-end still reports as recording. I hope the log might tell me which of the two internal tuners is failing and if there may be a connection.

Another strange issue is that myth viewing on the back-end does a weird thing as well. Every time I seek in a recording using the arrow keys, the master volume control cranks down to about half volume, pressing the right or left arrow on the keyboard again causes it to mute. I can't raise the volume with the F-Keys as myth thinks the volume is maxed. I have to use the gnome volume control to set it back. Could the video player used by mythtv also have some volume function mapped to the arrow keys?

Any help is welcome. Thanks.

I've narrowed down the behavior to the following:
When two recordings start at the same time, one will die.

When one recording is running, if another starts, it kills the existing recording at that exact moment..

Mythtv still thinks a recording is taking place but no new info is written.

It appears that accessing the tuner for recording or live tv will kill the stream from the hdhomerun.

This behavior is not affected by other tuners, just the HDHomerun.

I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Again, thanks for any help.

I've boosted the number of simultaneous recordings to the highest number of streams on one transport... 5.
I think it defaults to 2.

Fingers crossed, I've had three recordings working without the system killing one of the tuners.

This may be the fix for my issue?

That's an interesting issue I haven't heard of before. Did you ask if anyone else has encountered this on the mythtv-users mailing list?

Yes, there were a few others and there is a trouble ticket for it. Apparently it raised it's head with .23 and i not a 10.04 Ubuntu issue. So far my simple remedy has seemed to solve it at least for me. No problems at all with recordings since my config changes. Live tv on available tuners was weird one. I have not run into that issue again though.

Hi,

I had the same problem as this and I solved it by only adding one of the two tuners on the HDHomeRun to the mythtv Myth-Setup. The tuner to add is the one that can see channels when you do the scan. Just make sure it can do 2 concurrent recordings (this is the default on 0.24).

Cheers!
