Great episode. Enjoyed hearing the about SiliconDust and possible new gadgets from them.
Time warner here, so I probably won't get one but I'll be interested if anyone gets one on a TW system to see if anything works other than locals.
I was pleasantly surprised by the bagpipe music. The kids and I enjoyed it.
Good work guys!

Great show Guys! This device looks very promising for us cable subscribers. Can't wait to hear how it works with Comcast in my area. Is there any info on the web that specifies how this device works with the various cable providers?

Looking at the downloadable brochure for this product I see there is a slot for your providers cable card. If my provider is not providing these type of cards can the device still be used as a standard QAM device as my current tuners do?

If no cable card is provided it will act as a QAM tuner. However, it will not be able to do over the air ATSC capture.

Guys, is it not some fed regulation that they have to provide the cards for a fee if requested by a customer who os willing to pay a subscription.
Or am I confusing this with the firewire port rule?

Talked with Comcast yesterday to see if they supply/rent a M-Card type cablecard and they said that they will be available at their local stores/offices on Aug. 1. I asked the person on the phone if they could provide me with the channels that are recordable with this device and they were supposed to call back but did not. So until I confirm exactly what channels are recordable I am going to hold off on purchasing the HD HomeRun Prime.

Yes, there is a new FCC mandate requiring cable companies to allow self installs as of August 1, 2011. People have already contacted Comcast, RCN and others and it appears that is the case:
Comcast:
Can I install a CableCARD myself or does a technician need to come to my home?
Professional installation by a Comcast technician is available. In addition, starting on August 1, 2011, CableCARD self install kits will be made available at Comcast front counters. If you would like to install the CableCARD yourself, you will be able to pick up a CableCARD Self Install Kit at a Comcast front counter and activate the CableCARD by calling our CableCARD activation hotline at 1-800-XFINITY.
Please note: If you choose to use a CableCARD Self Install Kit, we are unable to provide you with assistance over the phone with the installation of the CableCARD. You will need to refer to the owner’s manual for your device or call the manufacturer’s toll-free number to answer questions about CableCARD installation.

Finally got to talk with someone from Comcast on Monday evening who actually knew something about the M-Card. I should be able to record any encrypted streams except for HBO and other premium channels. The bad news is after I got off the phone with the technician I went to NewEgg to place my order for the HomeRun Prime and they were sold out already!! Amazon does not even show it as available on their site. Aaaarrrrrggg!!

The 3 tuner models are not in yet. The 6 tuner models should ship very soon:

Finally, something from tight-lipped timewarner.
I recently requested a new channel line-up card from Time Warner. After reviewing it I noticed a foot note next to several channels (I say several but it's practically all channels)
The foot note represented "Not Available with Cable Card"
At least they are letting us know what is available if one used their own device and a cable card. In our case its practically NONE. Just the locals and some non-hd digital channels.
Although the new silicon dust device is not useful to me, at least I know which channels would work if I had one.
I hate to admit this but I'm pleasantly surprised they actually published this information.

My pre-order from 5/17 status has finally changed to "charged". I should be getting a shipment confirmation any minute. Hopefully the 3cc is in my possession by this weekend.
