Its been six months since i made any changes to my mythtv back-end.

I am now looking to do a fresh 11.04 64 bit back-end only install to a new ssd drive.

I will not set up a swap but plan to run 8gb of ram

I am intending to add a further 2 tb of storage soon, also.

Current back-end started out as a FE/BE (front end function no longer used) and is still running 10.04 32bit

I am thinking that as long as i take a back up of my database and fstab i should be fine

What is the best way to import an existing database?

Can anybody see any problems with what i am planning to do? or have any other comments/recommendations?

Following on from my earlier post, one thing i can potentially do following the install of the 11.04 64 bit to the ssd is spin down my storage drives

I currently have 3 storage drives 2 off 2 TB and a 1 TB. With the drives spun down while not in use and the OS on an ssd
i would expect a lot less heat and power consumption.

I believe hdparm can be used to spin down the drives after a defined period (20 minutes could be sensible)

What exactly happens when a recording starts and the hard drive is spun down?

How long is a typical spin up time?

Is the recording buffered to ram during the spin up time?

Is it a possible cause of missed recordings?

Any answers would be very much appreciated
