Very old news. Notice "Copyright 2002" on the page. There was discussion about a year ago among a lot of the GNOME devs about whether they've now swung too far the other way. Some people (within the development community) feel like GNOME is too boring and corporate, and there's no incentive to go out on a limb and try something new.

The picture this page draws was closer to accurate 4 or 5 years ago.
