Well, the stinkpad showed up last night. I quickly destroyed windows and installed Frugalware (which installed beautifully this time BTW). So far, as expected, everything works OOTB or with a little tweaking. One thing lenovo lied about is the HDD - they said it was eide, but it's sata, which is kind of fucked. Anyhow, I was able to suspend it w/o any tweaking, so I guess things are cool on that front. However, I couldn't get my screen to show correctly at a higher res than 1024x768 with either the ati or radeon driver. I get massive dispaly freakout effects, and eventually once it itmes out, my old screen back. I've nver seen any mention of this issue in any install guide, so I don't know how to approach the issue - I guess I could ditch the free drivers, but I don't see why I should have to.
I finished off the night by breaking the install - I was trying to get the synaptics driver working, and somehow the change I made to my flippin' pointer screwed up my keyboard. Obviously fixable with the aide of a cd, but nut much fun anyhow. I wish that frugalware had knetworkmanager available. Wpa_supplicant from the cmd line will probably work, but is kind of a pita.
Once I get stuff finished, I'll post the full details in my oh so often updated blog - I'm turning into Allan.
