Anyone want to work on Diva (video editor)?

Project is currently dead and looking for a programmer:

It seems like a bunch of promising projects have been abandoned recently: Diva, Hula, Castpodder(fortunately Spanminister has forked it as Icepodder)

And Kanotix is having problems:

For something like Diva to be developed within the foreseeable future, it needs to have a bunch of people working on it full time. It's been "under way" for over a year now and has barely gotten through an early alpha stage.

I doubt Novell would fund this anytime soon, because why is an iMovie-style video editor needed for a business desktop? Until they change their focus, even if only slightly, to a basic computer user, consumer-level customer, I don't see them funding anything like Diva.

Novell and Google were the primary sponsors of this project. Maybe Linspire could pick this up? I know Kevin Carmony mentioned developing a video editor as part of the Linspire suite.

If I was a full time student (grad or otherwise) I'd jump on this.

Might be a good idea, but since Linspire is very KDE oriented, throwing a GNOME app in there would just turn everything ockward. I say do a native KDE app when KDE 4 rolls around!

Just kidding, I'm sure Diva is a good project, should be interesting to see if someone picks it up.

Well the Linspire web browser is just a rebranded firefox. I've been reading the planet Gstreamer site and it sounds like Pitivi has very active development going on. The guy who did Diva has moved on and now works for Nokia.

I see, fair enough then. However Diva is written in Mono (C#), and since Linspire's customers have not legally licensed intellectual property from Microsoft, they may be subject to patent lawsuits!

Well, was it just a one man show or did he have some help, because writing a video editor single handedly is tough.

All I can say about kanotix is that it's a damn shame. Great live CD. I kind of wish fewer distros out there were piggybacking off debian, though, kanotix included.

Why is that? With so many distros built from one base doesn't that help with bringing focus and similarity to systems? Making it easier to sit down at any Linux machine and finding things the same or similar in functionality, much like sitting in front of any Windows machine you'll find the basics in the same place.

Yeah, and I find debian, or *buntu at least, needlessly complex in many cases. Symbolic links to symbolic links to binaries is just absurd. WTF is the point of /etc/alternatives? It's just plain stupid obfuscation in my eyes.

And more to the point, in general, a monoculture of anything is bad news. It also doesn't really lend itself to innovation if every month there are 3 new "distros" which are essentially just depian polishers or debian rebuilds. Now we have people basing distros off ubuntu. This is wasted effort, IMO.
