Ive heard lots of success with it, if you got a spare server Dan, give it a go.

yeah I have my mail go through my the gmail spam filter then it gets to Kmail and it uses spamd/spamassassin to filter out the rest that comes through which isn't much. I rarely get much spam into my actual inbox although when I check gmail I usually get at least 400 spams a day (that Gmail catches).

I've really enjoyed using mimedefang, which essentially uses spamd and clamav (in my case) to clean up mail.
