Pimping the OGG
I heard on episode 94 that you might add bonus content to the ogg version of the show in the future. I agree that this would be a good way to promote the ogg file.
Only problem I can see is this might increase bandwidth as people might download BOTH versions.
I listen to podcasts at work because that's the only time I have available. I put them on a USB key and plug it into my Windows box, and it gets me through the day. I can't install an ogg player because it's a work machine, so I'm stuck with mp3s. If I want the extra content, I have to download the ogg too.
What I'll probably end up doing is to just listen to the ogg and give up listening to TLLTS at work. I'd switch because I realize bandwidth costs MONEY, and I want to minimize the load on the servers. So in my case your strategy will work, but plenty of people don't think that way.
Anyway, it's worth thinking about. I could be wrong.

I am in a similar situation, as I have an mp3 player that only plays, well, mp3s. I listen to tllts when I jog in the mornings, and it would be a shame if I had to miss content just because I can't use the open format. There's also no way I'm going out and buying something that plays OGG for a while, since I've heard stories of only certain bitrates being supported and the like. I don't have the money either, and this player works fine for what it does.
However, since it is just extra content, I don't really see a big problem in downloading both and scanning to the end. Hope you guys don't mind me being a bandwidth hog

What player do you use? I run Linux at work but I have a windows box that I rdesktop into for the windows only apps. I have winamp installed and it by default plays ogg files.Gomer_X wrote: I can't install an ogg player because it's a work machine, so I'm stuck with mp3s.

I am currently subscribed to both the mp3 and ogg rss feeds. Once homebrew media players for the PSP get better then I will just download the ogg version of the show. Currently, PSP Media Center supports playing ogg files, but only ogg files encoded in stereo and at a frequency of 44100 Hz. This case is not as bad as with the iRiver because this flaw exist with the mp3 support as well. Another major flaw with that program is that it doesn't support fast-forward or rewind functions as of yet. I apologize for being a bandwidth hog.
So, support ogg by downloading it, then make it into mp3 and throw out the ogg file; that doesn't seem to promote ogg to me.CptnObvious999 wrote:I love the way TLLTS is promoting OGG. If you can't get a program that plays OGG or a MP3(OGG) Player just open it up in Audacity and save it in a supported format.
Wait for more portable player support for ogg, guys. Just because most of you listen at home doesn't mean that all of us do.

I think it may defeat the purpose of the ogg promotion but doesn't downloading both the ogg and mp3? plus it saves bandwidth.bosshoff wrote:So, support ogg by downloading it, then make it into mp3 and throw out the ogg file; that doesn't seem to promote ogg to me.CptnObvious999 wrote:I love the way TLLTS is promoting OGG.
