I may be allowed to use OpenOffice.org for my upcoming exams, but I need to disable the spell checking, does anybody know how to do this?

Well, if it's like NeoOffice (Macs at work), I believe you go to Tools > Options > Language Settings > Writing Aids.
Were you just looking to get rid of the automatic spell check? I'm not particularly fond of the layout and names of all the options in OpenOffice.

Try Tools > Options > Language Settings > Writing Aids and under 'options', uncheck 'check spelling as you type'.
Oughta work.
Edit: There's also an icon in the main toolbar that will turn off the autospell--right next to the spellcheck icon.
