Yes this is great news I got one too.
Basically, the BBC has been trying to launch it's IPTV/TV on demand service called iPlayer for windows only because they wanted DRM infection to protect licenses. A lot of the programmes on the BBC are co-produced with 3rd parties who want to make money from DVD sales etc.
But the prime minister's office 10 Downing St has an eGovernment website where you can petition the PM. Over 16000 linux and mac users signed a petition and so the board of governors for the BBC is forcing them to provide the service for a range of OSs

Just to let you all know ITV (http://www.itv.com) allows you to watch TV online (repeats) and some live stuff (Rugby World Cup) but only if you meet these reuirements :
