Has TLLTS ever had the Sidux devs on?
That's something I'd like to hear. Sidux looks like a very interesting distro. If anyone here is currently using Sidux I'd really appreciate your take on it.

I think you're right about it being an offshoot of Kanotix. I won't comment about the other thing though.Wally Balljacker wrote:Sidux is what Kanotix morphed into, right? I remember Pat used to have a big hard on for that distro a couple years back.
I really like what they say they are trying to do with this distro...

The idea of a very recent (3 or 4 realeases per year) stabilized and secured Sid snapshot that still retains 100% Debian Sid package compatibility is very appealing. We love Debian Sid (aka "Unstable") and believe in it's innovative power. It is by far the largest, most secure and up-to-date software repository available. Unfortunately, the Debian installer does not support Sid and upgrading from either Testing or Stable to Sid can be painful and demanding. Using debootstrap to create a Sid system leaves the average user with headaches and a lot of additional work to do by hand.
That is where sidux jumps in. We plan to provide 3 or 4 carefully balanced Sid snapshots each year, together with easy and fast installation options (from iso files, but probably also using other technologies such as scripts together with netinstall or cdebootstrap). We enrich the distribution with a properly patched version of the most recent kernels, improved hardware detection, ready to go drivers, helpful scripts and anything we think is useful. We strive to package properly and contribute all our suitable work back to Debian.
We understand sidux is a base system for further customisations and adaptations to special needs (laptop, desktop, server or special purpose workstation). It can be used in private and corporate surroundings and makes a fine platform for appliances. It will always remain a 100% Debian Sid compatible system.
Plus I like their free software take (strong but not fanatic)...
How we think about using the GPL?
We simply think that the GPL is the only acceptable license we like to use. Compatible licensing is OK, however. We still need to talk about dual-licensing.
Why do we not include non-GPL packages and non-free content?
Because they are not free, not open sourced, or otherwise are legally/technically problematic for us. However, while we will endeavour to assist people using hardware with non-free drivers we will always use free drivers by default when available.
One of the main devs left Kanotix and I think now Kanotix is based on a snapshot of Ubuntu and no longer maintains 100% Debian compatibility.

This makes Sidux better, for my tastes at least.Since financing Kanotix through donations has proved a failure and I am planning restructuring to a more stable base (be it Ubuntu or Debian will have to show in tests) and I myself regard Debian/Sid as unfortunately not compliant with a more commercial orientation, he has left the project.
