Greenpiece history of research has been a little shady, especially the Brent Spar case, so its perhaps worth taken the findings as initial results untill proven.

That's one of the critism... however from that article it starts of with..
Apple's ongoing spat with Greenpeace has produced plenty of publicity, and undoubtedly encouraged Apple to start talking openly about its environmental plans.
So its no all bad...
Wikipedia lists criticism of greenpiece from many sides, which is always important to look at..

I have a dumb question. If all this old equipment is bad when it is being thrown away and not before. Is it just the way it is being handled in disposal? I have lots of old equipment. Most of the older equipment have more metal shelding than the new equipment. Makes be wonder of the newer electronics are not more dangerous. Not dead yet from using older equipment.
