I also highly recommend adding apt-mirror (if you have the room) as part of that routine. It will save you bandwidth on updates and installs for connected clients. We are now installing ubuntu from a local server private network instead of the net. What a time saver!

I still can't understand why you'd want to run Ubuntu on a server.
I'm sure it works, but why bother when you can just use Debian?

Debian is absolutely great for a server (or workstation) but there are plenty of reasons to try Ubuntu on a server:Gomer_X wrote:I still can't understand why you'd want to run Ubuntu on a server.

Fresh packages
Great community
Great documentation
LTS releases
I've been pretty happy running Ubuntu on my server. No complaints what so ever. The upgrade to HH took a total of 10 minutes and yes it's a headless server.

I'm not sure I'd consider ubuntu documentation fantastic - mostly I see a lot of (sometimes questionable) wiki entries.
Also, this is supposedly ISP specific documentation, not home server, no?
