Seems like apples and oranges. MythTV and AppleTV are geared towards totally different markets. MythTV is for computer hobbyists, AppleTV is something non-techies can buy and use without difficulty that already integrates with their existing iTunes library. IMO, comparing the two is like comparing Linux with the Mac. Technically, Linux is far superior, but for average people I'd still recommend a Mac first.

Valid points. First the F/OSS choice is more flexible and just makes more sense for the techie crowd. Yes, AppleTV is geared towards the average electronics consumer who wants to plug it in and use it. For the features AppleTV boasts and the price they're selling them I think it's a pretty weak product. The main selling point is iTunes for your tv. Lame. For what they do they should be giving them away. I think the clock is ticking on AppleTV. When the time comes to get an HD MythTV front end I'll definitely consider getting a second hand AppleTV box and install Linux on it. Especially if they've been discontinued. Plus I HAVE TO take any opportunity to bash Apple.

I really do not know how people can defend Apple. They cold sell human excrement and apple fans would say "you cannot compare apple products with apples and pairs because they are two completely different markets. One is shit for the mass audience and apple shit is for the person with simply sophistication and eloquence"
