We have been experimenting with using a local mirror to do net installs. It is quirky and has issues (bug reports are being submitted), but it does work. It is nice to use the net install disk and not worry that you have the wrong install cd. The software menu is like the debian net install one, but it has quite a few more options. You can easily choose the desktop xubuntu, edubutu, mythbuntu, or ubuntu. You can also choose quite a bit of server applications also. If you are doing a lot of varied unbuntu installs, I recommend using apt-mirror. it does take a lot of bandwidth and disk space to get the files for the for the original setup, but after that the bandwidth use is minimal.
