Are you serious? You think asking someone, especially a newbie, to vi files in /etc is reasonable and "straight forward?" Especially someone who was upset when asked to define "network" and was upset that almost everywhere they looked people were suggesting client/server rather than peer-to-peer? Maybe I *am* the odd one out here...

Well he asked a simple question and he got answer with another question. he wanted to network two computer and nobody told him so far. The answer he got would have got mad anyone on this side of the hemisphere.

Do you really want to define what is a VPN if you ever asked how to stablish a VPN or what is a cluster when u have questions how to make a mirror server?

If someone gets mad because they get asked a clarifying question so we can help them, they're going to have a pretty frustrating life.

If I ask you "what's the best car," are you going to just tell me what the best car is or are you going to ask me a question to figure out what I'm looking for? Surely this is a simple question. :)

Oh really? I was mad cuz people needed clarification on the first place, and make a simple quesiton over complex and never actually respond. Do you really needed a clarification 'what is a network for him'?

If I am looking for a Network admin for my company and somoene comes like.... well first tell me what is a network for you company X?

If you ever come back wtih that answer you most likely wont ever get a job. And give me a feeling that you are clueless on what are we talking about here.

OK, this is getting way off subject here, but seeing as I *am* a network admin...

If you posted in the paper "Need Network Admin" with only that and an email addy to send resumes, you'd be inundated with resumes from folks who consider themselves network admins, but in reality can barely get a linksys online. If you want a network admin who will be able to fill a specific position - needs cisco experience, needs juniper experience, needs a specific level of cert to meet your partner status needs, needs vendor neutral experience but must be a multicast guru and frame relay jedi, etc - you need to state it in your requirements. If a 3xCCIE sends you back an inquiry as to what your specific requirements are, and you think they are a dipshit because of that, well...

Right, and for none I would need to define the what is a network of computers. Also if I want to not loose time I would have default to the most common use of networking and not just answer with a question which is a waste of time for the people asking and for the other responding.

At least he did not ask about clustering. Then there would be a real can of worms. if someone ordered a steak, would not someone need to ask how the steak needed to be cooked? if someone ordered a network, would not someone need to know how it was to be generally set up?
