eeePC atom vs celeron

i'm thinking about buying an eeePC. my question is this...what processor is more powerful? i know per specs the speeds are 1.6 ghz for the atom vs. 900 mhz for the celeron. i know this doesn't necessarily mean the atom is more powerful.

what's everyone thoughts and/or opinions? which processor would be the work horse out of the two? thanks in advance for anyone's input. it's greatly appreciated.

I've also had a hard time finding CPU benchmark results, probably because it varies quite a lot based on the workload, etc. In any case, I've found this site helpful:

I see both a 1000MHz celeron and a 1.6GHz atom listed along with their scores. I hope that helps!

The Celeron 1000 MHz is more powerful than the Atom 1.6 GHz. Even the Celeron 900 MHz is more powerful than the Atom 1.6 GHz. Look at this older post I made

The atom wasn't meant to be powerful, though. It was meant to provide decent performance in mobile systems. It is small and very low power.

If you're just looking for performance, don't buy a eeePC. That's not what it's designed for. Get a full sized laptop.

Which has a bigger trunk, my Mazda or a Ferrari? Probably my Mazda. Does that make it a better car? Depends on what you want to do with it.

True. But the bit more processing power of the Celeron over the Atom had me favoring the older eee 900 over the Atom eee 901. A lot of the time I would have it plugged in and use it as a second desktop at home, but also enjoy toting something small with me every now and then, so battery life isn't as impotant to me. But, I decided on getting the just released Acer Aspire One going for around $380 instead. The acer is an Atom with a 9" screen like the eee 901 but it has a bigger more useable keyboard. And it's a lot cheaper than the eee 901.
