Fedora 10 to have Solar Theme - Pretty nice

Post by jturning » Tue Sep 30, 2008 11:00 am

For the Fedora people, here's the artwork picked for Fedora 10. I actually enjoy the Fedora backgrounds that change depending on time of day. It's the only distro where I don't change the wallpaper to a picture I've taken.

I like the login screen:

I think that the grub looks terrible. What's the deal? I think Mandriva are doing a good job with the grub loader. But I don't have screen shot.

I like it myself, but then I'm biased a bit being a ham radio operator. We depend on the sun for ionospheric skip and follow solar weather, sunspots, and whatever interesting things are happening with our local star.

I like it too. But I really like how some other distros have gradients and stuff on the loader. But the theme is awesome. I hope that Mandriva will adopt the login screen for the next release.

As a Fedora user, I have to second, third, or ... that the art team has done a great job again.

I'm always amazed at the variety of awesome themes we have had recently while still keeping the nice blue as the main color. I'm looking forward to Fedora 10. I just got a new laptop, and even with Fedora 9 installed, there are some things that are not fully supported (like sound seems to be an issue), so I will need to keep the latest and greatest on my laptop.

I also have kept the main background since my dive into Fedora with Fedora 7. The only time I change is at the end of life for that release, so I only look at something different for a few days before the drive gets the upgrade to the new version.

Also, I think the Grub screen looks okay (haven't seen Mandriva, but since they are doing great things on the desktop, it is possible that they have done a better job here). Besides, the Grub screen only stays up for about 4 seconds on the typical install, before going to the default Grub entry, and the new Fedora 10 is supposed to be really close to 30 seconds from hitting the ON button to full desktop. I'm really looking forward to even faster boot times.
