The other challenge has been, in order to keep the price points down, a lot of people thought that Linux would be the savior of all of these netbooks. You know, there were a lot of netbooks loaded with Linux, which saves $50 or $100 or whatever it happens to be, based on Microsoft's pricing and, again, from an industry standpoint, there were a lot of returns because people didn't know what to do with it. Linux, even if you've got a great distribution and you can argue which one is better or not, still requires a lot more hands-on than somebody who is using Windows. So, we've seen overwhelmingly people wanting to stay with Windows because it just makes more sense: you just take it out of the box and it's ready to go.

If true, why when I look on Buy.com at netbooks being closed out do they all have Windows on them? Wait, $169 Asus Linux based one just showed up, but the rest are XP.

With mswindows being given away for free for the time being (microsoft must really be hurting. to do that), it is kind of hard to sell linux so to speak. People have grown accustomed to having viruses, spyware, and the like. People are used to the Microsoft drug. I feel for them. Part of the problem of MSFud being so successful is that there are a lot of professional people in IT who do not have a clue about what good computing is. But because they are in IT, what they say is taken as gospel. Not that I do know what good computing is, but I am using linux only now. I was on a major media website, where linux was being persecuted. I had to dispel quite a bit misinformation. i.e. "linux is not an operating system". A quote from a high up MSWindows admin. That particular website's users as a whole thought Microsoft and Apple were the holy grail. Now almost two years later after getting the facts out and defending linux as to what it can do there is quite a bit of linux discussion now. The hosts of the site are now no longer microsoft and Apple puppets. They actually question now what Microsoft and Apple does. Intelligent linux discussion is begging to thrive. I also have come to the conclusion that a majority microsoft users are software pirates. They get software from their buddies and they know they can always get help. Linux as a community needs to get out there and show there is a tremendous amount of free help available also. We need to push the fact you have less aggravation with linux for the obvious reasons.
Microsoft is in the process of raising billions of dollars, but is keeping hush about what they plan to do with the money. I think the linux community should watch their backsides.
