For those basing their opinions on the model listed alone, it's a typo. It's actually an Eee PC 900A. The 900 has the Celeron CPU.

Re: eeepc 900 for $169
Anyone want to chime in on how easy it is to get used to the smaller keyboard. I would love a netbook, but I would also love one that I can type on without too much hassle. For that reason, I was kind of waiting on a 10" model or this new Gecko Edubook with the regular AA batteries looks like a really cool option. Yet for $169 it would be hard to beat the specs on the EEEpc, and those models seem to have the best Linux support.

O, forget it, I'm a day late and a dollar short.
I would still be interested in hearing what people think of the 900 series keyboard, because those are the ones that are going the cheapest these days with Linux.

Do you have one Greggh?
What do you think of the keyboard?
I've seen a 900 series in the store, and it did seem rather cramped compared to the Dell Mininote.
However, that is a great price for 1 gig of ram in it too.

Nope. I don't have one of these. I was all set to buy a 10" netbook untill I finally got to play with my friend's Lenovo S10. After using it I realized that I needed a screen just a little bit bigger than 10". I ended up buying a Dell Mini 12 refurb for $266 that was being blown out on Dell's Outlet site..

I have the Eee PC 901 and it took me a couple of days to adjust to the small keyboard, but you get used to it. I have rather small hands, so it's not too bad for me. However, if you have sausage fingers, good luck with that. I just worked on an Acer Aspire One 8.9" model and the keyboard is a little bigger despite the fact that the system overall is a bit bulky compared to the 901. Much easier to type with, though. I would say that a 10" model should do just fine.mowestusa wrote:Anyone want to chime in on how easy it is to get used to the smaller keyboard. Re: eeepc 900 for $169
At first I like the idea of the Acer Aspire, but so many have complained that it is a lot harder to get another distro besides Linpus on those machines, when compared to the Eee PC's. The Eee PC's seem to have lots of different distros working on those machines, and if I bought one I would like one that worked with lots of the other distros out there. I would love to try Puppy, Zenwalk, Fedora, and Ubuntu Remix on there.Claudio wrote:I have the Eee PC 901 and it took me a couple of days to adjust to the small keyboard, but you get used to it. Re: eeepc 900 for $169
I have the eeePC 900 with the 20Gig(4+16) SSD. It took me about a week to get used to the keyboard, but then I was never much of a touch typist. I've always been a "2 fingers and a thumb" from each hand style typist. I ran the included Xandros for a while, then activated the "advanced" desktop for about a month or so. Eventually ran into too many limitations on the Xandros and started swapping around various distros using SD cards. I settled on Crunch Bang Cruncheee edition. and am quite happy with it so far. I really wish I had waited a few months though and got the Atom based 901 series.
