Episode: 341. The Gorkon Show

Post by bob8051 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 4:56 pm

I have been a loyal listener to your show for a long time now, but EP 341 pushed me over the edge and I had to write and complain.

Joel ! Please lean to use your mute button!

In this episode you ran shotgun over the guest and you constantly talk over the top of other people.

If you use your mute button you will have to make conscious decision to comment on the discussion.
This should eliminate all the “Me to”, “I agree” and “That’s right” type comments that you say over the top of other people.
This makes it very hard to hear what the other person is trying to say.

The other hosts keep muted until they have something to say.

If you can improve your mike technique it will make the show more enjoyable for all to listen to.

The other issue might be that either he or the guest was on wireless. At some points, it did sound like there was a lag in response which in turn sounded like he was cutting people off due to the latency. If possible, maybe all involved during the show could be on a wired connection to reduce the amount of latency in responses.

Listening to the episode again, I understand what you mean. Right in the beginning when the guest is speaking, he does end up cutting the guest off numerous times, and obviously not from latency issues in between responses.

Poor guy, everyone wants to slice him up. maybe that is why they named a cheese after him. I think it's called Gorkonzola?

Lols, say what you want; we all make mistakes on the show; that is true. But not me, mind you, those are not mistakes but carefully calculated faux pas to make everyone else look good.

Gorkon brings great conversation and content to the show. he's our honey pie.

I think Gorkon brings a lot to the table. He's very knowledgeable about gadgets and generally knows his stuff. So what if everyone doesn't always agree with his views. A little controversy and hate is good thing :)

I enjoyed the show.
It was nice to see Gorkon get passionate about a subject that interests him and Dann instead of his usual, joking, "shut the F* up Gorkon" decided to sit back and let him run with it. A wise choice as it made for a show with a difference, fresh and entertaining.
OK so he did talk over the guest a couple of times, but I'm prepared to forgive, maybe there was bad lag at one end of the line, maybe it was just simple inexperience, hey you only learn from your mistakes, right?

There's no doubt that Gorkon knows his stuff, and he definitely did bring a lot of things to the table with this episode. I think the problem was that Gorkon kept cutting off Jonathan as he was speaking and explaining things.

But then again, he could be like the one host we all know who mutes himself when asking questions and unmutes himself when yelling at the kids....

Don't get me wrong.

I didn't say I hated Joel.

I just want him to improve his mike technique so that he is less likely to interrupt people.
