Thank for the links. I found the Eken while looking at $100 Android netbooks and have been trying to find out more. Your links led me too SlateDroid.com, which is dedicated to these devices. I should have enough info now to decide if I want one. Has yours arrived yet?

I have the one in the picture and believe me they are not worth the $100 bucks. The processor is not 600mhz its 300mhz. You can get a .pdf from VIA on the specs of the proc. Its like watching a slide show. When you click a button, you wait two seconds for something to happen. Battery life with the wifi on is about two hours. And last but not least, the screen is GOD awful! It looks very fuzzy. I bought mine to be a e-reader - web browser and its not good for either.

The next one I get will be the Archos 7 home tablet.

cat /proc/cpuinfo or sudo lshw if you can. I can not believe they would advertise 600mhz and it only be 300mhz. Did you ask why the difference??

I've seen m003 (8") advertised as "800/really 533". I wonder if the procs are underclocked for heat/battery life. I'll try to find out. You may have to root it to run full clock.

From the SlateDroid forums, the Eken m0003 is the same hardware as the m0001 with a slightly larger screen, and if you install any of the custom images on the m0003 you will only be able to use 7" of the 8" screen. According to the last TLLTS, they saw some Eken's at SELF and were not impressed.

I did a little poking around for old Windows tablets on eBay and came across some Viewsonic "wireless display"s. Interesting concept, it is a Windows CE tablet that lets you remote login (to Windows of course) and acts a remote interface to your desktop. Not even the more expensive Android tablets seem powerful enough for streaming video, a remote login session over WiFi might be the way to view content and let your desktop do all the heavy lifting. Other than WiFi, the Viewsonic's don't have the storage interfaces of the Android tablets (USB, SD card) so I don't know it you could install a different OS and though it looks like they sell for around 50-60 bucks, most of the listings mentioned weak batteries or no guarantees of battery life, which leads me to believe it may be a problem endemic to the design.
