Get Joel "Gorkon" off of the show.

Post by fahq » Sun May 30, 2010 8:38 pm

Is it me or is this guy bringing the show down. His mic is always blowing up, he will not shut up when others are talking, and he talks like he's been on the show since day one. Dann, Allen, Pat and Linc hardly ever talk anymore. When Joel starts taking, you can here all the sighs from you guys. He just goes on and on. I'm not saying he's not a good guy, i'm sure he is but he's messing up the flow of the show!

This will probably get me banned from the forums and I'm sorry if this pisses anybody off.

Well we like to give people chances and more chances and all the chances they need. Constructive criticism is the best way to learn and Joel is aware that he needs to be careful not to run ramshod over people and he tries his best given the lags and such he has to face. Regardless, he does bring a tremendous amount of informative content to the show and is an extremely valued asset.

Do we have any Gorkon lovers in the house! Step up and defend your boy!

Have not listened to the last several shows (lots of stuff to do), so I can not judge for the latest shows. Having worked in the college environment for many years before becoming freelance, some of his war stories came very close to home. Could almost swear he was at the college where I use to work. I do think gorkonzola could use a small bit of modesty though. I do like to hear about recipes once in a while as I love to pretend to cook.

I wouldn't go so far as to say kick him off. He does offer some good content, and he is very enthusiastic. However, he really needs to tone down his rants. It bothers me listening to him take over the show at times, even over top of guests. He regularly changes the subject over what the guests are talking about. I don't really buy the bandwidth excuse because everyone else is able to deal with it without being rude. At any rate, I think if he would tone things down a bit it would help. Just my 2 cents worth.

Joel, take this as constructive criticism, and don't be discouraged. Round-table discussions can be hard to master. Keep trying.

Joel provides very useful information and has sparked a lot of discussions but on the other hand he is struggling to get into the TLLTS groove. Both facts are probably as a result of his involvement in the fast paced tech news blog http://www.geardiary.com/. TLLTS on the other hand has a slower style where topics tend to be discussed in full - whither you want them to be or not and often in excruciating detail.

@Joel. I'm sure you've read all these posts and have taken the comments on board. For my part I'd say don't be afraid of the 'dead air' - this is TLLTS not the Action News Show !!!!. If things don't get discussed, well then there were other things to talk about. It's just a bunch of linux heads sitting around shooting the breeze after all.

Yeah we love to discuss a topic in excruciatingly, painfully, slow beat-a-dead horse style sometimes. Hmmm.... We need to get some more shows about video codecs!
