Lookings for event monitoring system.

There was an episode where that talked about an event monitoring system.

I've looked though the past guest list. Didn't find anything that seemed to match.

We have looked at a Cordell system. That is way to much for our needs.

Has anyone used a open source system to monitor system?

I'm looking at snmp traffic, file creation, and checking scan points.
