Streaming Server Problem

Post by dann » Tue Nov 22, 2005 11:49 am

This is baffaling to me. We have two quicktime streaming servers at work. They want to broadcast out from the server using Quicktime Broadcaster running on a G5. Everything works fine internally. Externally is another matter.

I cannot get the stream using Quicktime or RealPlayer from my house on the Powerbook. But, I can get the stream using vlc on Linux or vlc on OS X. WTF? Quicktime does a 10 second countdown and hangs at "switching tranports."

I don't think this is a firewall issue as I had our IU open all ports to the server. That did not make difference. Besides, vlc works, so why would it be a firewall issue.

What's perplexing is that this is apple technology and it will not even work with itself!

You can take a look for yourself: rtsp://stream.slsd.org/test

I just get "The Page cannot be displayed" in IE. I'm at work, though, and don't have Quicktime or Realplayer.

I would expect at least something to tell me I don't have the right codecs.
