I was just checking NVIDIA's
Unix driver page and found that they've just released version
1.0-8174 of their drivers for both 32-bit and 64-bit Linux.
Kudos to NVIDIA, better late than never
I really look forward to see some benchmarks on this, because as we all know, the X Window System is a little bit different than Windows' graphical interface.

I don't care too much about SLI as I don't have that much money to waste, but "Fixed driver installation when SELinux is enabled" in the changelog looks interesting. I'll have to try it when I get home and see if I notice any improvements.

You don't have to use high end cards, you could just use like 6600 GTs, or what I might do, buy one card and then add the second when I need better performance.

My GeForce FX 5600 Ultra is still more power than I need.
I did indeed install the updated driver last night. Not much difference, but then I don't do much 3D stuff. I do notice X comes up noticeably quicker, though.

I'm getting to the point where I'm close to trashing my old CRT monitor, and buying a brand new high-end LCD monitor from Dell with something like a 1920x1080 resolution which you might need a pretty beefy graphics card to run at
