A word about kde 3.5

I just want to say I have switched my main desktop to kde 3.5 on ubuntu.

there seems to be something different at least to me about 3.5 - there is a certain polish to it and it is very fast.

I think konqueror is my new favorite toy. what can it not do.

seems like kde scales better than gnome too. I can have an outrageous number of programs open and it doesn't seem to bog down or even start to use my swap file where gnome would of.

so my hats off to the kde folks - 3.5 seems to be a really good quality release.

of course you mileage may very but this has been my experience with 3.5 so far - very impressed!

Display frappr maps, or quickly add links to your linkbar folders (this may be doable actually, but I haven't seen how yet)?

I'm in complete agreement though - 3.5 is the finest KDE to date. To some it may be bloated, but I'm very happy with it.

I'm liking it a lot. I like the new menu updater feature for apps that have not automatically created entries in the menus after installing. It goes out and scans all the apps on the system and lets you know which ones currently have no entries and will create them for you if you'd like.

I'm a little late coming to this one, but try going to the "Browser Identification" or something like that, and setting the URI up so that Konqueror says it's Safari. It's worked for me on a couple of sites, including Google maps, which frappr is based on. I haven't tried it on frappr, but give it a whirl. Nice to see that the collaboration between Apple and KDE pays off occasionally, even if Apple hasn't always been happy about giving their code back to the Khtml devs.

I'll give that a try though I'm somewhat against (well, actually fairly strongly against) allowing web devs to skew their logs by refusing service to certain browsers. In a back room somewhere "Look, see? We only need to build this page for Firefox and IE! No pageloads came from any other browsers! Well, OK, a few came in from that suh-faree browser, but forget about that!" However, I'm not above doing what needs to be done to get to content I actually *do* need, though frappr does not fall into that category. Thanks for the heads up!

I've also discovered that it pays to...um...be aware of your surroundings. There's an in-menu option to add links to the links bar. I'd still prefer if there were an option to D&D urls from the location bar to folders, but I can live with this alternative.
