Rewrite SUSE, Conform to Debian?

Post by Wally Balljacker » Sun Mar 12, 2006 4:42 pm

"Novell would do well to change some old conventions to match Debian. They would expand their support channels to pickup a massive user base and become the preferred Linux vendor in both distributions and services. They could also provide SUSE with more application options for their users."

My comment from digg:
I don't really get the idea of taking an already, really solid distribution and starting from scratch, Novell would have to redo pretty much all of their certification stuff, and the revamp of YaST would take a hell of a lot of work, and really, I don't think the pros. would outweigh the cons.

I think what SUSE really needs is basically just some tweaking and tuning of the distro, which is already really good, for example in order to get the basic desktop system installed only two CDs should be required, better internationalism, better "out of the box" multimedia support.
