That's true SUSE 10.0 is WAY faster than the 9.x versions. I belive they have tweaked it a lot !

However on older hardware, like my old Laptop, with a very slow harddrive, vector linux with XFce is really really fast. To be fair i haven't tried SUSE 10.0 on it !

Can you boot Suse in 20 seconds, wau !

what hardware are you running !

It's polish is also much nicer, I think the major version number change came just at the right time.

Well, SUSE's system requirements is something about 700 MHz and 256 MB of RAM, I've tried it on a Pentium3 machine at 800 MHz with 256 MB of RAM, and it ran fine, not as good as on my main machine, but it was definitely useable.

Nothing fancy, I have an AMD Athlon Barton XP 3200+ CPU, 1 GB of cheap Samsung DDR PC3200 memory, Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard, and, here's the secret sauce for making SUSE boot in 20 seconds, a Western Digital Raptor harddrive (10000 RPM, 36.7 GB, 8 MB of cache) and a Western Digital Caviar RE2 (7200 RPM, 400 GB, 16 MB of cache).

Thr only thing that's special about my setup is probably the hard drives, I'm a storage junkie and the 400 GB drive I have is really great and cheap as well, and the Raptor is great as a system drive, super super fast.
