Why is Microsoft pulling a 180 on this one? Did the software vendors put some pressure on them to support it? How exactly does one pressure Microsoft, anyhow? I suppose I could hit google and find out more, but I just found it interesting, since just the other week someone was saying Microsoft had no business interest in supporting OpenGL...

Well, guys like id software could say "We've freaking spent millions on developing Doom 3 and Quake 4 for your platform, AND WE WANT OPENGL!!" or something.

However it worked, I guess I should just be glad it did. Microsoft isn't stupid by any strech of the imagination in their business practices, so they must realize how important gaming is to their O.S. It seems to keep people tied to Windows more than any other thing, and it does make business sense not to mess with the one area where you have a stranglehold on the market, which is PC gaming for Windows. At least, that's as good a conjecture as I can figure out.
