hey all
im running Mepis 3.3.1 on this old celeron 1100
and i run 4 sound cards in it and im having trouble adding a 5th card
there has been no configuration or any such thing to use 4 cards
it just picks them up and off you go
but when i add a 5th card it trys to load the module but it fails
doesnt seem to matter what kind of card i add have tried several
all with the same result
is there a config file somwhere that limits the number of /dev/dsp ?
4 works like a champ
1. on board via something i use for stream monitoring
2. ensonic cheapy card for running TeamSpeak ( to hear and talk to my show cohosts)
3. SB live for music
4. SB live for doing ID's and sound bytes
i would like to have the 5th card to run skype so i can take calls during the show instead of using a seperate box to run it (to many monitors)
any thoughts?
im pretty well versed in basic things but i dont know where to start with this
and havent got any response on other forums (they maybe think im nuts)
wayne
need more sound cards

hi Pat
well i have 2 answers to your question
1. im to cheap to get a good sound card
2. even with such a card i dont think it would provide the flexibility that
multiple cards provides
i run 3 sessions of XMMS to handle the output duties
and one session of Teamspeak, all run into the mixer
from there into the Dynebolic box to encode the stream and record the show
but would still like to add another card to add the skype incoming line to the mix
and yes i do some multitrack stuff for promos and things for our radio service
if all i wanted to do was the multitrack stuff then a multi input card would suffice
but as for live broadcast i really like the ability to have my promos and sound bytes
on a seperate session then the music list
just wondering if anyone has ever done or heard of such setup
as i say 4 cards works great
but the 5th just doesnt want to load

irq's
i would check irq's and see who is using
most of the time when something like this doesn't load it has to do with irq sharing.
probably something is using an irq that the fifth card is trying to use.
