Firefox and Flash 8.5 under WINE on Linux

I think everyone can pretty much agree; Flash 7 sucks ASS. It's actually so old, alot of sites don't even support it at all anymore, and video clips on sites like YouTube, and Google Video don't even play properly, with out of sync audio and video, which is extremely annoying. After searching around for some possible solutions, I came across this how-to on getting Firefox, and the latest Flash working on Linux under WINE.

Now, Firefox works pretty well, but it's a tad buggy, and alittle slower than running it natively of couse. Flash on the other hand barely works at all. I tried watching the latest episode of CrankyGeeks on their website, and it is slow as dirt. Not even watchable. I find this odd, since I'm using Ubuntu Dapper, same as they are in this article, and I don't get the same results. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this, and what your experiences are.

I'm always surprised when anything I try under wine works. But when it does work, it tends to be a bit slow and buggy compared to native.

While this process sounds interesting, I think I will wait until native flash for linux. Those sites will have to go on without my patronage until then.

I'm not going to run WINE to watch internet video. I won't patronize sites that require Flash 8. If there's a site I really want to use that requires flash, I'll send them an E-mail asking them to support standards.

There's plenty of content out there that doesn't require me to jump through hoops to get it.

I like watching clips on YouTube, and unfortunately they use Flash. I don't think sending an email would do much good since Flash is the easiest format for them to deploy, since 95% of all computer users have it. I don't expect YouTube to start using something like Ogg Theora just to make a few Linux users happy. I have to be realistic, and there's no other options.

I watched videos too in youtube and i never had any problem regarding sync. Maybe is your package that is wrong, I knew in mandriva they got a bad package and they fix it a few months ago.
