That Peanut Linux System I installed Win98 On

I must say, that installation of Windows 98 was the most painless install I have ever done. All the hardware was found except for the Realtek Nic I put in there. Getting that driver was a bit of a pain in the butt and burning it with all the other software I had was even worse. Still, it is functioning now.

Firefox is only a bit faster on this machine. Not really that great, but a lot more useable than it was in Peanut Linux. The flip side, though, is that all the other software is significanlty slower. Circus Linux was pokey as heck. What a price to pay.

Well, this story has a better ending. At work they were chucking out old computers (first generation PIII's and older). Bascially machines that were beyond fixing and were replaced this past year. I managed to cobble together a workable system using a calvacade of parts from the old machine and what was laying around.

I felt terrible for killing peanut linux in favor of Windows 98. Well now I am nuking Win98 in favor of Dapper. I somehow feel clean again.

I wonder if you feel as dirty as I did when installing Mac OS9 on the old G3 laptop. I don't feel that bad as old world macs require a version of Mac OS* to boot into linux. It's just a means to an end.

Once I get the family history files off of my parents old 486 w/ 32MB ram (win95) machine I'm thinking of getting it internet capable(just for kicks) with Puppy linux or maybe Vextor. Although with such low memory I'm not even going to try Firefox as your attempt showed it needs ram big time. Looks like Dillo or maybe opera for this project.
