Thunderbird password manager

Hi guys,
For one of my email accounts, I changed the users login password and now Thunderbird simply says "Failed to login to ..." 2 times and quits on checking that account. Normally if it fails authentication it then asks for the password again, but not for this account.

I had a look at prefs.js but nothing apparent about password checking there. Edit > Preferences wont open now either (no I didnt edit prefs.js by hand)

So I guess I have two options.
1) try and fix this
2) start a new profile folder

Of 2, I would like to copy some things over. Like what I have trained it to be Junk mail for example.

Any help on this issues would be greatly appreciated.
